The Magic Of First Times

The magic of first times

Why do we love first times so much? Why are they so special that we constantly crave them? To the magic and those butterflies that we get in our stomach because we don’t know what will happen when… When something new happens…  that ‘s the magic of first times.

Your first job, your first date, your first look at a new city, the first time you see a new movie. All of these situations involve a new experience — and a degree of uncertainty. This can lead to a lot of different feelings, such as fear and doubt. However, it can also result in positive feelings  such as motivation, surprise and so much more.

When we face something for the first time, we set up a mental plan and goals. We imagine what it will be like, what will happen and what it will bring us. This starts a kind of inner engine that pushes us forward. Moreover, it motivates us to show the best version of ourselves to the outside world.

First times feel like looking at a thousand secret doors. You don’t know where they lead, but you open them anyway. If we can get over the first bit of fear, we overcome barriers and discover new horizons. First times are fraught with magic  because even without knowing what’s going to happen, at least we’re moving forward.

The hope of first times

Here lies the magic. When we know what’s going to happen to our work, when we meet someone we’re going to stick with, or even when we know how a meeting is going to go,  we lose some of the hope you experience the first time around. As Rafael Santandreu, a Spanish psychologist, says: “If we confront situations with an open mind as we do during the first times, we will be able to discover something new every day and feel the same hope.”

The magic of first times

Think of students doing their internship abroad. When the semester starts, they find themselves in a lecture hall full of new people. They move into a new city to explore. They are full of high hopes that the coming school year will be a good one. But as the months go by, the unknown becomes known. Also, the return home (and the more stable reality) is getting closer.

We no longer see all the possibilities in places we are used to. Yet the habitats we live in always have  something new to offer. There are thousands of things we haven’t discovered yet and people we don’t know yet. But if you are able to drum up the magic of first times and greet the day with it, you will be able  to experience the power of first times every day.

The hope, the magic of first times are not drawn from the situations themselves. You get this from your own attitude and your outlook on life. You make the magic possible yourself. So why not make every day a first time?

What positive effects can we draw from the past?

Every day hides the magic of the unexpected. If we live on with our eyes fixed on what we already know, if we don’t hope for something better every day, we will miss the wonders of each new day. We may know how the day begins,  but we cannot know how it ends.

open arms

First times are accompanied by nerves, fears and doubts. But we can learn from this. We can find new means to minimize our uncertainties. That way we can continue to improve our lives and improve ourselves.

Let’s create a new day full of firsts. Let’s draw something positive from every moment. We have the ability to create the magic ourselves. We can live as if it were the first time and with the passion as if it were our last day. Let’s make sure the butterflies of tension are not lost. Cherish the laughter of the uncertainty of the first time, even if it’s the second, third, or even tenth time.
